Avian Influenza A(H5) viruses are subtypes of influenza A with hemagglutinin type 5, primarily circulating in birds. The dominant strain is H5N1 (clade 2.3.4.4b), which can be highly pathogenic (HPAI), causing severe disease with up to 100% mortality in poultry flocks.
