Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV) is a double-stranded DNA virus in the Capripoxvirus genus (Poxviridae family), closely related to sheeppox and goatpox viruses. It causes lumpy skin disease (LSD), an economically devastating disease in cattle (and buffalo), characterized by fever, enlarged lymph nodes, and firm, raised skin nodules (2–5 cm) that may ulcerate and scar. Morbidity 10–50%, mortality usually <10%; impacts include reduced milk/meat production, hide damage, and trade restrictions.
